W.R.Harvey & Co.(Antiques) Ltd. is an old established firm where every member of the team plays a vital role.
Walter Harvey who founded the business 60 years ago is retired but does still take an active interest in the business and attends the most prestigious exhibitions.
Although David Harvey was born into the Antiques business, he intended to study Chemical Engineering but was hijacked to establish an English Antique Furniture Department for Einrichtungshaus Schreiber in Hamburg back in 1972 during his gap year . Returning to London in December ‘73 he agreed to help his Father out for a few weeks and that turned into the rest of his life. His training in the sciences has not been lost as a clear analytical approach to examining pieces is a valuable asset. He has been Managing Director for some 20 years.
David has been involved in helping with the vetting at a variety of international antiques fairs and is an acknowledged expert on Fine English Furniture of the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries. He has had articles published in numerous publications including the V&A Handbook and has also written some 30 catalogues and is a World Authority on his subject. He is passionate about Antique Cabinets, Antique Chests,Antique Desks, Chairs in fact just Antique Furniture.
Chrissie Curry shares the Harvey’s passion for good English Antique Furniture and comes from a business background where she has held senior positions in HR with international companies and brings her charm in dealing with clients and a brilliant grasp of management systems to the everyday running of the business.
James Mills gained his degree in Valuation and Estate Management at West of England University and worked for some years in Marketing Research which is proving useful in his current position as Gallery Manager for Harvey’s. He has excellent computer skills and his easy going but hands on approach has made him a great hit with clients in the year that he has been with the company. He has found this period to be a steep learning curve but has easily come to terms with the language and philosophy of antique dealing.
Sue Orpwood has been with Harvey’s for 14 years and provides an invaluable support in every aspect of what happens at 86 Corn Street. She is most certainly one of the team and enjoys making a visit to our showrooms so memorable for clients.
